A Size Guide: Cups and Napkins

We’re back and so excited to kick start the TFG blog once again. Lots has been happening since the last post, we’ve had an exciting summer creating, packing and shipping your orders! Now it is time to transition to cooler weather, layering, warm cider, fall sports and, of course, the holidays. We know that this time of year means event after event after event, and obviously, the planning aspect of it all. TFG specializes in being a one-stop-shop for all things that fall into this category. As the big event approaches–banquet, annual holiday party, conference, wedding reception–we know you’re working tirelessly to pull all the pieces together to execute the perfect soirée. Let this blog be your guide when it comes to the not-so-obvious, but important factors that need to be taken into account when planning your event.

Lesson 1: How do I choose the perfect size cup for my event?

When it comes to planning your party, personalized party cups are the perfect way to add that extra touch of “wow” to your event. The question is, how many cups do you need, and which sizes work best? The answer depends on the nature of your gathering.

Let’s break it down. When we talk about “filled cup capacity,” think of it as the maximum liquid volume each cup can hold. It’s like matching the right measuring cup to your recipe. For instance, a 12 oz soda fits perfectly in a 12 oz cup, but don’t forget to account for ice and spill prevention.

Regardless of the type of personalized cup you choose, be it shatterproof, styrofoam, plastic, or any other, here are some recommended sizes:

– 4 – 10 ounces: Ideal for kids or serving up ice cream.

– 9 – 14 ounces: Perfect for wine or cocktails.

– 16+ ounces: These are great for soda and beer, but a 12 oz beer fits just right in a 16 oz cup!

Need to factor in ice? We’d recommend one of our 14, 16, or 20 oz personalized cups, depending on your affinity for ice.

The quantity you’ll need depends on how you plan to serve beverages. For self-serve setups, where guests might misplace their drinks, it’s wise to prepare 2-3 cups per person. Even if you’re personally handing out the drinks, having some extras on hand is a smart precaution for unforeseen circumstances.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed by these choices? We’d suggest the 16 oz cup as a safe bet. It’s a versatile option that’s hard to go wrong with.

Lesson 2: How many napkins do I need per guest?

Even if there is no spending limit, there is no point in ordering way too much and wasting good products. With a head count in mind, you can figure how many napkins to purchase for the event.

  • Beverage Napkins: Order three to four per guest
  • Luncheon Napkins: Order one to two per guest
  • Dinner Napkins: Order one to two per guest

Beverage Napkins, also known as cocktail napkins, are the go-to choice for parties and wedding receptions. Measuring around 4.75 to 5 inches square, they’re perfect for drinks, appetizers, and desserts. For a five-hour event with a cocktail hour, open bar, and appetizers, plan on 8-10 beverage napkins per guest. This accounts for one drink per hour, three to four hors d’oeuvres, and an extra napkin for dessert.

Luncheon Napkins are your versatile mealtime essential. At just under 6.5 inches square, our 2-ply luncheon napkins from Napkins.com are perfect for any sit-down meal or buffet service. Plan on 1-2 napkins per person, whether at place settings or in containers by the buffet. A few extras are wise for unexpected spills or messy dishes.

Dinner Napkins are the choice for formal dining occasions. They come pre-folded in rectangular or slightly larger square shapes. Plan on 1-2 dinner napkins per guest for your order.

We hope this guide was helpful and you feel more confident in making your next order for your event!
