Off to The Races! How to Celebrate The Kentucky Derby in Style.

Here at Two Funny Girls, we’ve been ready to dust off our hats and sip on mint juleps since May, so we’re more than ready to finally celebrate the “Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports,” even if the festivities look a little different this year. Yes, the Run for the Roses is still on, and coming up fast. That means we’ve put together everything you need to host a Kentucky Derby viewing party, from custom party decorations and table decor to a delicious drink recipe that puts an interesting twist on the classic mint julep you know and love.

Kentucky Derby Update: Finally off to the Races!

In the 145-year history of the race, the Kentucky Derby has never been canceled and was postponed only once due to World War II in 1945. As of our latest updates, the 2020 Derby is still on! It’s scheduled to take place September 5th due to ongoing precautions. That said, we’re more than ready to be off to the races. Let’s start with some cocktails, shall we?

Derby Drinks: A Twist on the Iconic Mint Julep

When we saw Garden & Gun published a julep recipe with a surprising key ingredient, we knew it was perfect for a Kentucky Derby celebration. Yes, it’s a mint julep with a twist, but not necessarily a modern one. The Georgia Peach Julep brings this cocktail back to its roots in sophisticated southern style. It swaps the now-standard bourbon or rye for a punchy peach brandy. The spicy, warm peach element gives this drink some early fall flavor, perfect for our new Derby date in September. According to Garden & Gun, it’s also the way the original julep was made in the mid-1800s. Check out our instagram page to see the full recipe (plus a handy how-to video), or read the full Garden & Gun article here.

Derby Decor

Now for our favorite part, the presentation! Pour your Peach Julep into one of our Pre-Printed Frosted Kentucky Derby cups. These adorable horse racing cups have an illustration of six brightly colored horse jockey legs and a horse dressed for horse racing. These frosted shatterproof “roadie” cups are sold in a sleeve of 10, making them great for party favors, too! Want to take your Derby soiree to the next level? You can personalize your shatterproof cups with a logo, monogram, custom artwork and more. Same goes for our personalized full-color cocktail napkins! Create a fancy (and sanitary!) finishing touch by including custom wooden food and drink sticks for finger foods and party platters to make sure guests feel safe while enjoying shared plates.
